The 2D Innovation Hub represents one of the department’s most ambitious long-horizon strategic efforts. It is conceived as a mission-mode platform to build India’s first serious research-to-prototyping capability in 2D materials, beyond-CMOS electronics, and future semiconductor systems. The long-term vision is not merely to create isolated research outputs, but to establish a materials-to-devices-to-circuits-to-prototypes pipeline with translational depth, strategic relevance, and the potential to evolve into a platform of national and eventually international consequence.
The initiative is driven by the belief that the future of electronics will require new material systems and new integration pathways beyond conventional silicon scaling alone. The hub therefore aims to connect advanced materials, process modules, device innovations, circuit demonstrations, prototyping, startup activity, industrial relevance, and strategic-user engagement within one ecosystem.
